One of the burning socio-economic problems is unemployment problem. Today India facing a major problem is unemployment problem. The problem is increasing quickly. Unemployment is a serious problem. Unemployment is closely associated with the problem of poverty. Unemployment refers to a situation in which worker is not getting job in the exiting wage rage.
On other hand, if there is large scale unemployment, the income of working class falls. As a result poverty is aggravated. Unemployment of labor is not only an economic waste but a social evil. Unemployment perpetuates poverty, encourages crime and creates contempt and frustration among youth. Unemployment problem is the mother of fatalism, extortion, Maoism and such other anti-social activities.
Socio economic problem:
The meaning of unemployment is lack of jobs. There are basically two types of unemployment such as educated and uneducated. Educated people unemployment increasing very fast. Educated get some work somehow.In an agricultural country like India, this unemployment is not applicable.
India’s unemployment is basically structural. Unemployment is a chronic problem. It requires long term measures to remove deficiency of economic structure.When large numbers of people are unemployed, it has widespread economic and social effects. Hunger and homelessness are considered social problems it’s due to unemployment problem.
Therefore unemployment is a social problem. Since Society is a Social Issue, and Unemployment is the largest determining factor in a Society’s collective quality of life which affects everyone, it is absolutely a social problem. Thus unemployment problem is socio economic problem.
Unemployment is what get people sleeping in the street and that is what makes it such a social problem. Unemployment is such a harsh social problem.While high unemployment does raise social issues it is not truly a social problem. It’s an economic problem with social consequences. The unemployment rate is a direct indicator of the strength of the economy.

Failure of industrial sector to grow at a faster rate results in overcrowding of agriculture leading to disguised unemployment.
Another cause of unemployment is rapid growth of population. Unemployment opportunities created in the country cannot keep pace with growth of labor force. Hence, there is huge backlog of unemployment.India, instead of developing an appropriate technique for her economy has blindly followed capital intensive technique.
It has borrowed from the west which aggravated the problem of unemployment.In our inadequate planning process, employment objective has been given below priority. The assumption that as a result of GDP growth employment will grow as a dependant variable has failed.Indian agriculture is backward and underdeveloped. Backward agriculture is also reason for unemployment problem.
Measures to solve unemployment problem:
Careful planning is required to solve the problem of unemployment. The outlook of young boys and girls ought to be changed. The government must take proper steps to solve the unemployment problem. Globalization must stop. A higher growth rate with change in structure of production can solve unemployment problem.There is a huge backlog of unemployment.
Hence, checking population explosion is an important element for unemployment. Growth population should be reduced to 1%. So that unemployment problem can be tackled effectively.Widespread unemployment is responsible for mass poverty in India. Unemployment rate is inscreaed to 8.28%. This shows that India has a jobless growth during period of reforms. We should try to remove this unemployment problem. We can together tackled this problem i hope so.
